Harvesting a Processing of Pure Organic Noni Juice
Morinda Citrifolia, commonly known by the name Noni tree, belongs to the family of your highly cherished beverage coffee. From this, we obtain our one of the healthiest fruit which is known as noni. It is also commonly known as Indian Mulberry, beach mulberry or even the cheese fruit.
Here we would discuss the process of harvesting and then converting the noni fruit into its juice so that it could be supplied to the people, all across the globe.
The Noni Tree:
Not all parts of the world are fortunate enough to be blessed by the existence of Noni tree and this is mostly found in regions of South-East Asia, Pacific Islands and Australia etc.
Noni tree mostly grows in shady forests while some could even be found in rocky and sandy shores. It has a simple woody appearance that could grow up to 30 feet tall and has white colored flowers.

While the tree is fully mature, it could render noni fruits which are green when young but might turn white or yellowish when fully ripe. The most compliant property of the Noni tree is that it is highly capable in withstanding saline soils, secondary soils and even drought conditions of the concerned area.
Harvesting and processing of noni juice:
The harvesting and processing of Noni Juice could involve innumerable methods and steps. These generally vary according to the change in regions and climatic conditions.
Figure 2: Farms containing noni trees
Noni fruits generally have no specific time of harvesting and these could be plucked at any stage of their development. Some manufacturers prefer to make use of the green fruits while most of them love the hard, white fruits to extract the juice.

These fruits are generally picked by hands and carefully put in the storage boxes or bags to transport them to the factories. Noni has a very durable outer structure and therefore it does not get bruised or harmed easily. Also, there isn’t a need to refrigerate the fruits as they do not get harmed by the direct sunlight or warm weather conditions.
When brought to the factories, the fruits are offered a quick wash and these needs to be processed within a day or two. Longer preservation of noni fruits attracts many harmful insects such as flies and rodents etc. To prevent this, the fruits are offered a quick utilization.
Manufacture of Noni Juice:
Noni juice could be prepared with the ripe fruits, following two major methods of production. These are:
Fully ripe, white colored fruits are brought to the juicing factories in sealed bags and boxes. These are carefully weighed and kept in tubs for further processing.

The Noni fruits are then carefully washed with water and offered a drying in the sun. Most of the factories prefer an automatic fruit washer and dryer to clean and dry the fruits.

It is believed that maximum amount of juice could be extracted from the noni fruits that are fully ripe. These soft and translucent fruits are kept in juice collection vessels which are specially designed for the process. In comparison to the ripe fruits, green fruits would have lesser content of juice in them.
For about a time period of two month, the ripe noni fruits are allowed to rest in the Juice collecting vessels. It is during this time that the juice gets separated from the pulp.
Figure 6; Traditional Noni Juice collecting vessels
The juice collections vessels of noni are generally made up of materials such as stainless steel, glass or secure plastics. When fruits are kept in this, the juice progressively comes out of the fruit and gets collected.
The fresh noni juice could have amber or a golden tint which grows dark with the age. The vessels are also fitted with the spigots at the bottom due to which the collected juice could be drained out of the vessel. A bit of vigilance is required to prevent juice from coming in contact with the air as it could harm the process.
The collected juice undergoes a process of decantation and filtration after which it is stored in sealed bottles. Pasteurization may be required for the juice if it is found that juice needs the process utterly.
The bottles used for noni juice are preferably made up of dark colored glass material as light could initiate chemical processes in the juice.
The traditional method of juice preparation involves aging of fruits which render a sharp and bitter taste to this. In contrast to this, the non-traditional methods could offer the preparation of juice, such that it tastes a bit sweeter and has more of a fruity kind flavor. Non-traditional method involves the following process:
- Ripe fruits are collected, carefully washed and dried.
- After this, they are fed to a fruit press which is capable of separating the fruit-pulp from the seeds. These fruit press then squeeze the juice out of the noni fruits which is collected in secure vessels.
Figure 8: A modern fruit press machine for Noni Juice extraction
The mechanical fruit press is capable of extracting about 65% of the juice from fruits in comparison to the traditional methods which involve only 40 to 50% juice extraction is possible by weight.
- The noni juice that comes out as a result of this possesses a golden color which does not require pasteurization. It also has a very less sediment content in comparison to the traditional method.
- To preserve the fruit taste, the manufacturers do not generally ferment the fresh juice and it could be directly marketed upon packing.
Thus with the above process, Noni juice is easily extracted out of fruits and offered to the market for selling.
This Noni Juice is said to be highly nutritious as it is a large storehouse of many vital nutrients, antioxidants and minerals. Scientists have even found its capability to defeat the most perilous cancerous elements in the body.
Further, it is also capable of curing many other physical and mental disorders that are generally found advancing in the humans. With this, Noni Juice could undoubtedly be called as one-stop remedy to a whole lot of body disorders.
